Mederma for scars

I had an open RNY, so my scar is about 4" long. I was planning to get a tat over it, but if I can use anything to make it virtually invisible, that would be better for me.

Has anyone used mederma or any other ointment, gel, strips, etc. to minimize the surgery scars?

Yes  It worked for me.  The earlier you start using it the better.

A fellow DS'er posted that her sister (a dermatologist) said that plain old petroleum jelly is best.  Said to apply it 10 times per day and massage for at least ten seconds at each application.

I used mederma along with Pure Vitamin E Oil.  It works but it takes a long time.
